Day 8: To Missoula and Glacier NP

2009.07.07
We left KOA West Yellowstone to our next stop in Missoula, Montana via a short bit of Idaho.

Along the way it was all cattle ranches.

Upon reaching Butte, we saw this big religious statue on top of the nearby mountain.

We stopped in Butte to get our lunch since I did not pack anything last night.

D opted for McD.

Kandak took over the wheel for the first time.

I-90 West was our route.

There was nothing much to see in this part of the country but hills stripped of trees for timber.

Trains hauling coal seem to be a regular feature here though.

We reached Missoula around 4pm.

D got us a tent village this time.

The boys pitched the tent in no time. We retired early because tomorrow we need to leave early for Glacier NP. It's supposed to be a 3-hour drive.

We left just after 6am. It was very hard to wake up in the cold.

There was a major road construction along the way which delayed us quite a bit.

How should I pronounce that name in the Flathead tribal language?

Flathead Lake which we passed by is the biggest lake in the western US .. some 27 miles long.

There was a small patch of rapeseed field.

It was a long drive, but yes, we were in the right direction.

People here just love to bike in the summer on their Harleys.

There were lots of companies offering tour services outside the entrance. We will just settle for a drive with NIK AI.

Alas, we reached West Glacier, the main entry point for Glacier National Park.
